| - I came here after getting a comp from my host at Silverton. I really liked that everything was taken care of electronically, from the reservation to the payment. I didn't have to present any comp slip or anything at the end of the meal, just the remaining check balance was presented to me and I was on my way.
I'll be comparing some to Fiesta Henderson's Fuego Steakhouse, which is another casino steakhouse I visit quite a bit.
The atmosphere is decent, but not amazing. The tables feel a bit crowded together. We were seated quickly and they were not overly busy or anything. We got a basket of bread that consisted of a large flat cracker thing that tasted like Cheez-Its (not a bad thing), and two small pieces of raisin bread, white bread, and white bread with cheese on top -- each piece of bread was like half a thick slice of a French loaf. Honestly, they need to step their bread game up. Fuego kills them here, and I would have even preferred a basket of plain soft white rolls.
The waiter came over and took our order. I'll note that they do not have a lot of chicken dishes like some steakhouses (notably there is no boneless chicken dish). I got the filet mignon done medium with demi-glace, my girlfriend got butterflied filet mignon well done, and we split sides of macaroni & cheese, au gratin potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, and brussel sprouts. It took a little bit longer than expected to arrive.
First off, the steaks were great. My steak seemed a touch overdone, but the taste was spot on. I've never had demi-glace before, but it was nothing special and after using a little of it I left it off as it was just ruining the taste of the beef. It tasted very much of a watery brown gravy. My girlfriend got full and I had about a third of her steak which was left over. Even though it was well done, it was amazingly tender and tasted wonderful. The macaroni and cheese and au gratin potatoes were both top notch. The garlic mashed potatoes were not that great and we did not eat more than a spoonful of them. I don't eat brussel sprouts but my girlfriend said they were good.
The waiter took a bit too long to bring the check over. Everything, including a glass of wine, came to around $101 (before comp) which is reasonable.
It's hard to pick between Fuego and Twin Creeks. Twin Creeks steak was better, but the sides (with the exception of the au gratin potatoes) are better at Fuego, the bread basket is absolutely to die for at Fuego, the service is slightly better at Fuego, and the prices are just a touch cheaper at Fuego. It sounds like I make a pretty convincing case for Fuego, but in my mind it's a lot closer than that.
