| - The other day, I dropped into Calgary Hot Yoga with my dragon boat team because the Reservoir was closed due to high water levels. It was my first time ever, and seeing as I had only been out of the hospital a whole week and a 1/2, I thought it would be a good way to work out without the hard cardio and impact training I normally like to do.
Damn I was wrong. It's waaaay harder than I thought, and I bless my folks for sending me to HK and Taiwan all those years ago, otherwise I would have just gone completely nuts over the heat. Honestly, when they say hot yoga, I didn't expect a 30+ C heated humid studio. Add the pretzel forms that they encouraged me to try and some of the most brutal crunches in my life, and it's definately a hard workout in it's own right.
Instruction was great, and the environment was friendly and helpful. And I have to admit, nothing feels better than normal ambiant temperatures after spending 110 minutes (90 min instruction, 20 min getting acclimated to the temperature and then to "cool" down).
While it's not my cup of tea normally, I honestly wouldn't mind trying it out a few more times to see where I can improve. It was worth the time and experience. By the way, bring your own towel and some water, and while they have their own yoga mats for people to use, I recommend bringing in your own if you already do yoga.
