| - I don't go to LaBrioche-True Food very often, and after a meal there yesterday, I remember why. When LaBrioche was a small bakery with a little bit of seating on S. Midvale Blvd, it was a delightfully warm and steamy place to have a cup of coffee and something sweet. The owners were more often than not behind the counter with a friendly hello and how-are-you. Since the move to University Avenue and expansion to a full-service restaurant, sadly, much of that homey ambiance is gone. The organic and locally-sourced food is great, if pricey (how about some gluten-free options?), the attention to details of decor is welcome, the bakery looks as delectable as ever, and I for one appreciate the no cell-phone policy. I'd give at least a 4-star rating on those things alone, but...
All of this is completely spoiled by the most poorly-trained and unwelcoming waitstaff I have ever encountered in a restaurant - bar none. Above all, to a person they seem dreadfully unhappy and overworked. Service is slow and once the food arrives, there's no return visit to inquire about the meal or other needs - until it's time for delivery of the check. The blame for this rests squarely on the owners and leadership of the place, who ought to fix it. Until this aspect of the experience is improved, 2 stars is all from me.
