Seven of us headed to Cafe Monte for a birthday celebration that was a disaster as a meal and the evening only salvaged by the duty manager doing right by us when it came time to receive the bill.
We ordered drinks that took some 15 minutes to arrive but it was still another 15 minutes before our food order was taken, with 4 of us ordering from the a la carte menu and the rest from the prix fixe. In time the a la carte entrees arrived but it was 20-30 minutes before the prix fixe entrees arrived. The excuse given was that the orders from the different menus were given to the kitchen at different times.
The food met with a mixed reception from rave reviews from some through to indifference from others. My caprese salad had no basil or olive oil but did have a rather gloopy balsamic dressing on the side. It tasted fine but was not what I expected. My steak, cooked rare as requested was pretty good. The trout was enjoyed, as was the lobster/crab crepes. Two people had the scallops with risotto ... both enjoyed the scallops but they differed greatly in their feelings for the risotto.
If the kitchen and wait staff could get their act together this would be a decent mid-range restaurant but it seems they have some way to go. In the end the duty manager seemed sincerely apologetic and ensured there was appropriate consideration when it came to the bill. That was appreciated but we would rather have had a better experience.
