| - Update: Just went again after a year (trekking down from Newmarket - specifically to go here) and tried some other things, including the cheesecake. It was amazing! I think I know what I want for a birthday cake next July! ...I always say "I don't care, whatever", when it comes to asking for a particular cake, but now I know! My only disappointment was that they ran out of baguettes. :(
BTW: my wife tried to re-create their fantastic chocolate-dipped orange rinds last year...was ok, but nowhere near as good as Mon K's. They didn't have any of those either. :(
Old review: We went as a family before heading to the hospital down the street for a surgery appointment. I've been wanting to go since I saw a write-up and review of their store about three years ago. Living north of the city, this wasn't easy. As anticipated, every single item we purchased was fantastic, in that it was different from the other cookie cutter baked goods you will find in a grocery store and all had wonderful mixes of flavours (especially loved the puddings). The baguette was probably the second best I've ever had in my life (and I've been to Paris). The macarons were awesome. We bought pretty well one of everything that we wanted - spent about $85 and was completely worth it. The only slight miss was the cappuccino. Don't get me wrong, it was good too, but it seemed only half full in the cup (because of some milk foam?) and it was a small cup. Barely a shot of coffee. I too, like other reviewers found the host to seem a little bit unhappy, but unlike others, I'm not going to fault her for it. Instead, on my next visit (and yes, I am going to go slightly out of our way on our next bi-annual visit to st. Lawrence market) I will make sure she knows how much I appreciate this gem of a store for being there. If I was in jail on death row and they asked what I wanted for my last meal.... well, being a baked goods lover - I would ask for one of everything from mon k patisserie.
