| - It's official: the cocktail culture has FINALLY hit Phoenix, Arizona. This place is owned by the same people who own Counter Intuitive, another amazingly awesome cocktail bar in Old Town. I just can't tell you how cool of an experience UnderTow was.
First of all, I guess if you're going to do a tiki-themed bar, you might as well go all-out. And by all-out, I mean everything from portholes to look out of to see the "sky" all the way to lighting and sound effects to make you feel like you're in the middle of a giant storm. The theme is as intricate as a tiki-themed ride at Disneyland. No joke it's seriously an experience to come here.
Now for a review of the cocktails themselves. Two words: Delicious AF. Every single cocktail has a spirit base of rum, but even if you're not a rum lover (I'm definitely not) you will find a drink you love. The way they blend interesting, unique flavors together really is an art, just as real mixology should be. If you are a true lover of cocktails, then you absolutely need to come here.
The only downfall - they limit you to a 90 minute stay. I'm not sure if that will change after they've been open for a while, but as of right now it's so incredibly hard to get a reservation here, that once you do they have to limit your time to allow others to get in (the whole place seats about 30 people, max and there is no standing room). Your best bet, and what we did, is to to right at 4pm when they open - you'll still have to text ahead of time to get on the list (we texted at 1:30pm and got in for 4pm) but it's the best time to go and the easiest time to get in.
