| - I wanted to wait a few days to let my brain come up with a review that was fair for Daniel Boulud.
I was pretty disappointed and here's why:
1.) This restaurant does the thing where even if you have reservations, they make you wait 20 minutes at the bar so you can spend even more money on drinks. It's really annoying and I noticed all other couples getting the same treatment. With that said, I did have a really good drink so I was pleased. It still is no excuse to keep starving people from gettin fed.
2.) We were seated in a pretty darn good spot. We were facing the "Lake of Dreams" and saw the great laser/music show every half hour. Couldn't have asked for a better seat without having to grease the maitre'd.
3.) Apps: I had to ask for bread, which was clearly given to every party soon after being seated. I have more on my server later. Seafood Platter was a great value. We shared the small size, which was easily large enough for 3 people. It came with 6 raw oysters, 2 clams, 2 mussels, 2 giant prawns, half a lobster tail, and 2 different tartares. I was surprised at the generosity from a Vegas restaurant for only $36!!! This might have been the highlight of the evening.
I got another app which was pretty average. I expected to be blown away by every dish here. This is the point in the meal where it starts slipping.
4.) Entrees: I blame myself for not getting the DB Burger, but does that mean my entree and gf's entree should be so-so. Not when I'm paying the price I paid.
5.) Service: Bad. The waiter would have been a terrible waiter if he worked at Applebee's. I'm not sure how he even got the job. My water got to a point where I was dangerously low and asked for more. How does this happen at a place of this caliber? Water should be refilled as soon as I take a sip. My wine list was taken away from the table without anyone asking if I still needed it. Don't you want me to order ridiculously overpriced glasses of wine? I was sure willing to. Hey waiter... when I ask for the check because I'm in a hurry to meet people, don't continue to clean my table. Stop what you're doing, get my check and worry about the table later. They teach you this at Applebee's. These are all ticky tack complaints, but compound that with the inattentiveness throughout the meal and the expectation I have from the price I'm paying and service receives 0 stars.
I'm sure another night, another set of dishes, and another waiter would have yielded a better resule, but for me Daniel Boulud deserved 2 Yelp stars.
