| - Do not bring your newborn here. Although Dr. Madrid is a nice guy, he should not do newborn care. We saw him for the first six weeks and Dr. Madrid never did a normal check up (looking in ears, nose, checking eyes, private area, heart beat, lungs, etc). He never measured his length or head circumference and we never knew what percentiles our son was in. He literally never touched our baby while we saw him.
From week two of our baby's life, Dr. Madrid wrongly diagnosed our newborn with a milk protein intolerance and advised that I stop breastfeeding. He put our baby on Neocate formula ($50 per can) and advised that we can purchase the formula on Craigslist from people who get it for free on WIC. We later learned this is an intense formula for a two week old baby who actually showed no signs of having a milk allergy. We just didn't know better and trusted the doctor.
While on the Neocate formula, our baby stopped pooping and lost all of his hair! Dr. Madrid has us give our baby a suppository everyday for THREE WEEKS because our baby stopped pooping by himself. It was terrible and just didn't seem right. We didn't know how much longer we could do suppositories and Dr. Madrid didn't seem worried about it. It all seemed so intense for a small infant!
With the hair loss, Dr. Madrid said he had a fungus on his head and called in an oral prescription for us. When we went to pick it up and the pharmacist saw our sons birthday and that he was only 6 weeks old, the pharmacist told us the medication has never been tested on babies under two years old and he'd highly recommend we not use it. We were upset Dr. Madrid would prescribe that for our baby!
We soon started to see a new pediatrician and realized he was doing a lot wrong!!! I feel like Dr. Madrid should not be so quick to diagnose things in newborn babies. I wasn't able to breastfeed my baby or give him breastmilk for the first seven weeks of my baby's life, or until I switched doctors.
All in all, do not take your baby here!!! We have called to get money back from them because they continued to charge us although we have a $0 copay and have not heard back. Not surprised! Terrible terrible. So glad we switched. Dr. Madrid never even mentioned the shots babies receive when they're one and two months old so now we're playing catch up.
