| - I was reluctant to try this gym because of the reviews on this website - so I'm glad I didn't listen.
Those who have had miserable experiences with creepy staff members and misleading sales reps have not had the pleasure of dealing with Claron.
At first I was intimidated by the young Chris Bosh lookalike, as I am generally awkward and completely out of shape but Claron immediately made me feel at ease.
A lot of people say that Extreme Fitness is all about the hard sell and that their trial offers are a bait and switch but all of the pricing details were laid out very carefully and I never once felt that awkward pressure that one can feel from a pushy sales person.
Once the payment options were outlined, I was able to decide whether I wanted to continue with absolutely no pressure and the rules for cancellation were also stressed BEFORE I agreed to a plan. He also reminded me of my consumer right to cancel within ten days which is something I don't think they are required to do.
This is a great sales tactic as I am ten times more likely to buy when I encounter this method instead of a pushy sales jerk who shows no interest in what I'm actually looking for.
Anyways, on to the gym. A big part of the reason that I picked this gym is I heard there was a steam room, whirlpool and sauna. And there was! So now I don't have to abuse my health insurance and go down to Elmwood Spa for a massage every time I want a steam.
There is also a comfy sitting room with a big screen TV in the ladies change room.
Unlike the YMCA etc, there are hair dryers, hair gel, body lotion, deodorant etc available in the very large women's change room!
Free Towels!!
There are two computers with Internet access available for member use in the lobby.
The unlimited classes that come free with membership are abundant and there is lots of variety.
Also, my membership gives me access to all other Extreme locations in Toronto.
I am sure I will enjoy my membership here, but if I don't, I can cancel in ten days. No pressure!
*Update* I just had my fitness assessment with Nathan - great guy - not intimidating at all, took extra time to thoroughly go over my problem areas and where I need improvement. Very nice and understanding person. Of course there was a bit of a sales pitch for personal training but it wasn't pushy and I never felt that awkward guilt trip that some sales people create. All around this gym is a great experience and by finishing my workouts off with the steam room I leve feeling relaxed like I've just come from Elmwood spa!
