  • Dr. Reiter provided me competent care for six years, up until last year. That's when I started grinding heavily due to bad GERD, so heavily that I killed the roots in three of my bottom teeth, necessitating expensive above- and below-the-gum root canal in all of them. I already had a nightguard, but it wasn't working because I was grinding my bottom teeth into its hard plastic surface. So Dr. Reiter agreed to an experiment. She would try to make a different kind a guard, made of softer plastic and positioned differently. The receptionist checked my insurance. I had one of the best, Lincoln. I was told that it would cover a nightguard since it was medically necessary. Impressions were taken and, a few weeks later, the nightguard arrived. It was exactly the same kind of nightguard I already owned. Nothing different. Dr. Reiter had forgotten about our discussion. I left a message that I wanted to talk to Dr. Reiter about the problem. She never returned my call. The next time I went in for a cleaning, there was a new face in the office who wanted to talk to me about my "treatment plan." I notice she talked to most patients now, before they stepped in to see Dr. Reiter. They hired a payment Nazi. My insurance didn't cover my nightguard after all, I was told. I now owed $600 and it would go to collections if I didn't pay. I explained my situation and they said they would try to sort it out. Nothing was sorted out and now the payment Nazi is calling my wife to tell her the bill is going to collections. I understand that a patient is responsible for what their insurance does not cover. However, I was also told not to worry, that insurance would cover the nightguard. I should not have been told that. In addition, I owe money on a treatment that was not what the doctor and I discussed. Now, it seems that I have no recourse but to share with you what happened and recommend against you becoming a patient here.
