| - *** Caution if you get the GROUPON deal*** AVOID THE SHADINESS***
Let me start off by saying this was a fun activity to do. However the amount of shadiness involved kind of dampened the mood for the experience as well as the post trip back to the hotel. I got a groupon for this online and will break down the the B.S. they fed me once we were all there.
PROS:
Jerry was our tour guide. They did a good job at making sure everyone was safe and had all the proper equipment and knowing all the signs for keeping up in the group. They are all experienced riders. Our guide did a good job at keeping everyone together and determining who were the more experienced riders to provide for a fun trail ride. Below are the reasons why this gets one star.
CONS:
^^^ is exactly what they are...
-- The groupon fails to mention anything about the 2 hour RIDE being 2 hours from door to door. So really it was about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes for the tour itself.
-- Jerry pulls me aside and tells me, which the groupon also fails to mention, that I am responsible for a $16 PER PERSON "TAX" that the groupon does not cover? I don't understand if we paid $97 per person and tax in Vegas is 8.1% how that adds up but when I brought that up to Jerry he clearly wasn't having it and was like "It's $16 man..."
-- They only could do cash because their "machine" was down. Which wouldn't have been a problem except I brought 10 people with me.
-- The ATV's were old but still functional. My buddy's ATV stalled out a couple times while on the trail.
-- The flags on these ATV's must've been 100 years old but when my friend turned his head back to say something to me his hand hit the flag and it had snapped right off... If these were BRAND new I'd understand... however trying to charge us for the lack of maintenance they perform on these ATV's was messed up... Jerry tried to charge him $15 for a $2 flag!!!!!
-- We eventually get to the "half way point" and they try to sell us, for the second time now, on getting the extended hour. Originally they wanted $40 per person extra when we first got there. Which we refused then... At this "half way point" they offered us the same deal for $25 per person instead (again cash only) because I had brought 10 people he could do it for me at that price. Again we refused. This is where things took a turn in my experience.
The other 4 people on the tour with us decided to extend the hour. My group of 10 PEOPLE did not. So another guide told us he'd take us back... it'd be about 20-30 minutes to get back. We got back in 15 minutes. Once we got there we had about 4 girls on this tour in my group that desperately needed to use the restroom. We figured "Hey, we're done, we'll get back on the shuttle van and head back. Worse case we can pull over at a gas station or something." This guy told us we had to WAIT for the other group of 4 to get back. When I asked how long that would take he said about another 45 minutes. I couldn't believe they made us wait in this desert, 98 degrees, NO BATHROOM, all because we didn't pay for the extension. One van showed up after 10 minutes and I told the guy "Hey great, we can just take that van back." He said he couldn't do that because we had to wait for the other 4. Then a second van showed up 10 minutes AFTER that. Again I said "well look man we're not paying to wait, you have two vans and these girls really need to use the bathroom?" again he said he couldn't do anything about that until Jerry got back. This is what pissed me off the most. Finally Jerry and the group of 4 people get there. Jerry unlocks the truck where some of the girls personal belongings were locked up and hands them over. The group of 4 takes off their helmets, their gloves, and goggles. They go over to a cooler and get handed over some food and drinks... They finish their snacks and drinks-- ONLY TO TELL US THAT WE CAN GO IN THE VAN THAT ORIGINALLY GOT THERE... BECAUSE THE OTHER 4 WERE GOING TO ANOTHER HOTEL IN THE OTHER VAN!!!! WE COULD'VE LEFT AFTER THE FIRST VAN GOT THERE...
For the price we paid we might as well have paid full price at any of these other desert trails after they charged us "tax" Poor business ethics, very shady with their cash only dealings, and most of all no consideration for the people in my group who really needed to use the restroom. They try to get money out of you on everything on this trail. Fun riding in the desert, however nothing that none of these other places could've offered. I will personally never use these guys again and would warn people to stay away from them. Plenty of other places to use to go 4 wheeling. TRUST ME... don't get "got" because I certainly did.
