| - **BAM! 100th Hoover Dam Review.**
Seeing is believing... but after seeing this, you still won't believe your eyes. The Hoover Dam is quite simply.. beautiful. Every adjective you've read in all the other reviews - majestic, breath-taking, remarkable, gorgeous - are all applicable and then some. It's an engineering feat with a quiet strength.
Yes, you can see the Hoover Dam without the tour. But, I've always liked behind-the-scenes stuff and learning about the history. If you're visiting a National Landmark, and you've already driven out this far, it's worthwhile to know what it is you're actually staring at and taking so many pictures of. We only took the power plant tour, not the whole shebang. But it sufficed. The 10-minute video at the beginning was educational and gives you a sense of the sheer magnitude of the dam. The tour itself was informative, not too geeky or laden with statistics, but just enough so that you get it. There are ample vista points to get an amazing shot. Don't forget to visit both sides of the dam. The bridge that is being constructed looks amazing; I cannot wait for it to be completed so that I can walk across it!
TIPS - get there early! You'll beat the traffic AND the heat. And then you can go on about the rest of your day. Don't be afraid to ask someone to take a picture! There are plenty of couples and families that will volunteer for a picture swap any time. Bring snackies! While there is a restaurant and a vending machine on the premises, carrying along a granola bar and trail mix will get you through okay. Save that money for the Vegas debauchery! [Or any kind for that matter. ;) ]
