  • I had no idea this place existed and I would never have guessed. It is tucked in a little piece of woodland behind the Ballantyne Commons Shopping Center and is far more rural than I imagined. The whole setup is low key (except they have credit card machines, which was a life saver). They'll give you a cardboard box to carry your strawberry haul (or you can bring your own) and just set you walking about the field. It is very accessible, very easy. If you didn't know (I didn't) strawberries grow close to the ground on 1 foot high vines. It's the perfect height for little kids to reach, although grandma may have trouble getting down to them. At this time of year the plants were heavy with fruit. We started by grabbing every juicy-looking strawberry we saw but ended up being more discriminating. You could pick a pound of strawberries ($2.09) per minute if you aren't careful. Take your time, it is a beautiful place. Also, take the berries home and wash them before gorging. They don't pretend to be a pesticide-free organic farm, so give 'em a rinse. I would recommend calling ahead to check on the picking conditions. It would be a shame to show up and find unripened fruit.
