  • This is a must stop for anybody that visits Hoover Dam. There is no excuse short of a health hazard not to visit this awesome piece of history. Lets talk about the basic facts. It is jointly named for Mike O'Callaghan, Governor of Nevada from 1971-1979, and Pat Tillman, a football player who left his football career with the Arizona Cardinals to enlist in the United States Army and was later killed in Afghanistan. Took 7 years to build (from 2003 to 2010) at a sum of 240 million, which was within budget (that's all? LOL). They have made everything as easy as humanly possible for you to comfortably enjoy this attraction. You have free parking, bathrooms, two pathways (stairs and an elevated walkway for the handicapped), drinking fountains along the way, benches at the top, and various signage full of educational information. So when you get to the bridge finally, you will find yourself 840 feet above the Colorado River, which is the second highest in the United States next to the Royal Gorge Bridge. Of course you have to take the seasonal elements into consideration. You gotta deal with triple digit temps in the summer, cool (sometimes cold) winds the other 9 months. Also, reception is not that good overall for this and the Hoover Dam location itself so checking in is not always feasible. Like I have mentioned in my Hoover Dam review, they need to install a dam cell tower nearby! Overall, its another modern marvel that should be appreciated over and over again. Lots of good pictures to be taken here whether you are a professional or an amateur. Either way, its definitely a spectacle to remember. A zip line would be perfect here for a price of course which is understandable. For now its still a free attraction so I would take full advantage before they decide to start charging you. Hay, 240 million is a lot to recoup if you ask me. LOL.
