I love this Asia de Cuba as much as the one in New York. Equally as pretentious and magically delicious. They still have the all white theme going but there's an underlying rooster theme. There's a painting of a rooster on the back wall, a few large tiles with roosters and then the larger-than-life white egg on the patio. I sat back, relaxed and took it all in.
If you've never had Asia de Cuba, it's Asian-Cuban cuisine and all dishes are meant to be shared family-style. Once you see the size of the portions, you'll understand why apps are $19-30, entrees are $35-70 and desserts are $13-15.
My friend started with one of the seasonal cocktails - pumpkin puree, dark rum and whipped cream. I passed but she liked it. We started with the Thai Beef Salad which was ginormous. The plate must have been 15" in diameter and the bottom was covered with slices of spicy beef carpaccio. A perfect combination of raw texture and flavor with a kick. The salad looked good but I only had a few bites - there were asian greens, bits of oranges, shredded coconut, slices of avocado and a hot and sour dressing. We finished the beef but could only get through half the salad.
Our entree was eyes-roll-back-into-your-head good. We had the Miso Cured Butterfish. The fish was perfect - the sauce was sweet and the fish was smooth, buttery and light. The sides were deep fried peppers and cold edamame and black beans.
We couldn't leave without having dessert. Mexican donuts and a pot of English Breakfast tea. The Mexican donuts are a little larger than bite-sized rounds of donuts with powdered sugar and a toffee surprise in the middle. It also comes with a toffee sauce which you must smother the donuts in.
I could get used to doing this for Thanksgiving dinner EVERY year.
