| - What's wrong with this picture about Carolina Veterinary Specialists - Huntersville?
They seem to be all about the money and promoting their EMERGENCY visit policy as opposed to a regular visit.
After many trials in getting an appointment due to them only accepting referrals and saying they hadn't received my vet's fax, I finally had an appointment for 10:30 today.
As we were leaving (sick pet, diagnosed with Cushings), my car wouldn't start. As I made arrangements to get there and realized we'd be about 30 minutes late, I called them, out of courtesy!
I was told by the girl that answered the phone that she had to check with doctor. Doctor said NO, she couldnt' see us if we were late!
I quickly determined we'd only be 15 minutes late and told them, and actually begged her to see my dog. She still said no. I questioned it, using logical reasoning such as why would 15 minutes be unreasonable seeing as how this is a specialty practice/appointment and not just a visit for shots or a well check up!
I just couldn't understand as I believe it is pretty much standard practice that PATIENTS have to wait at times!
WELL...the reason I say it must be about the money, is I was offered the opportunity to come in through the emergency department. All for an extra cost of $164 and Voila, I would see the same doctor that couldn't see me 15 minutes late! So apparently, according to Haley and Tanya, Dr. Sluiter has slots set aside for "emergency" patients, if one is willing to pay the extra money!
I said, why would I do that, it is not an emergency (though she needs this appointment) and it is unethical on both my part and the practice to call something an "Emergency visit" just to get in when it involves a significant amount of money.
So those that can pay can get their animal a visit sooner??
I am very disillusioned with the lack of compassion, and understanding of an emergency car situation, by this practice. In addition, if I hadn't called and tried to be polite and let them know, I probably would have been seen!!
Actually though, I am not sure I would want a vet like Dr. Sluiter who is so rigid that she can't be a bit flexible with a patient.
After reading these reviews though, I realize I should have realized this isn't the place for us.
