I had a clogged toilet and my handyman couldn't get to the blockage. He told me he saw an advertisement for $49 for a drain cleaning and gave me Plumbing Solutions phone number. That price sounded reasonable so I figured the rest of their menu of services would be reasonable too. I was able to schedule an appointment within 1 business day.
The plumber took a look at the toilet and quoted me $225 to remove the toilet and put it back when he was done, and $149 to snake it. I agreed.
This didn't solve the problem though and he said the clog was a hard object lodged in the toilet. There was nothing we could do but buy a new toilet. He quoted me an additional $700. I told him that was really expensive. He said he could take off $200 for some of the labor since the toilet had already been removed and 1/2 of that work was done. I said it was still too expensive. I decided to cut my losses and have my handyman do the work.
I asked him not to reseat the old toilet and asked if there'd be a discount since that portion of the work was not going to be done. He said "no" that's not how billing worked. You pay one price for removing and reseating a toilet. He offered to take the old toilet down to the garage so I accepted.
After he left, I called my handyman and we purchased a toilet for $170. He charged me $80 for installation. Now I know, my handyman is not a licensed plumber so it may not be fair to compare their services. But this is a huge difference in price. My handyman was really surprised to hear what they charged me to begin since the prices they advertised seem very competitive.
In the future, I'll work with Pure Plumbing when I need a licensed plumber. I've worked with them multiple times on my rentals and I'm quite sure they wouldn't have asked me to pay nearly $1000 to replace a toilet.
