On Friday, March 21st I made an appointment to see my former eye doctor at Advance Eye Care. I was asked for my insurance info at that time... perfectly normal and it bears mentioning that I have coverage with a major insurer lets say either United Health Care or Blue Cross. They took my info and scheduled my for Saturday. March 29, at 12:45.
I show up that Saturday at 12:30. The waiting room is a bit crowded and there is an unattended child running around and slamming toy blocks on the sofa... but that's not the office's fault. Just thought I'd mention it.
I fill out the paperwork and wait... and wait. At 1:15 the girl behind the desk calls me up to inform me that they do not take my health insurance. Um.... what?!? I say that would have been helpful info when I made the appointment. She agrees and says I should have been told. She says there may be an option if I can wait for a few more minutes she can check on it. So... I wait.
She calls the office manager, which it turns out IS THE PERSON I GAVE MY INFO TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. She talks to the office manager for a while. I wait.
She calls me up and says that they can see me today and see if they can get it covered... they can't check with my insurance because it's Saturday and no one is available to answer their questions. So basically I can be seen now and maybe be charged the full amount or maybe not. She says that should have been checked the day before... really?!? Seems like if you don't take my insurance you should have told me that the moment I gave you my insurer's name.
Here's the best part... I'm not a new patient. They've seen me before?!? If this is how they handle paperwork I want no part of their eye exams.
I declined and left and am now posting this review while everything is still fresh in my mind.
Avoid Advance Eye Care.
