| - I love hotels! I love reviewing hotels! I am only *in like* with the DoubleTree. Like I have a little crush, but I see the flaws. I stayed in one in Detroit and one in Cleveland. Cleveland was nice, but the shuttle service left me stranded downtown by myself. (I'm a lady. Not cool.) I think the three star rating is on point, actually.
This review is in regards to the cutest chic hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. I chose this over the Ace for a little writing retreat ONLY because of the attached gym (the Ace doesn't have one of those.) The decor is adorable & the beds at Doubletree are always cozy.
I'd say this hotel is luxe vibes meets affordability (but with the affordability and thousands of rooms come things that could be improved.)
Let's start with the awesome things!
The two girls I interacted with at the front desk were awesome. You could tell the manager guy was stressed, but he was still nice. I mean, it was March Madness AND St. Paddy's Day. Lots going on!
Love the fresh fruit at check-in! I don't do nuts, so I never got into the cookie.
Iphone doc by the bed was a nice and cute touch!
Also love that the maids didn't keep knocking to clean the room before checkout (personal pet peeve).
AMAZING BAR ATTACHED. Can't say enough about the food & staff on room service and in-restaurant dining. Professional and personable peeps right there.
Floor was clean! Bed was clean! Room temperature was adjustable and I felt cozy.
Room for improvement -
Bathroom either has stains on the inside of the bowl or was dirty. Mascara stains on bed linen (but I get it, those are really hard to get out & I believe it was clean).
Paint on doors to bedroom, mirror and bathroom could use a touchup.
My fault & bad for not being clear on this one. The maintenance man did come up to fix it immediately - he just didn't replace the correct one and when I realized there was also a phone on my desk, I didn't follow up. The phone in the bedroom is broken! (Room 1113) (Though, this is on a personal note, I saw the maintenance guy in the hallway and he just kept staring at me in a way that made me really uncomfortable & paranoid. I locked all the doors after that.)
The coffee maker is in a silly place. You have to move it somewhere else to plug it in! I'd suggest adding another plug into an installation ... this was harrowing and if that sounds dramatic, hear me when I say coffee and I are in an actual committed relationship and I need it to meet me where I am emotionally every morning. Working for it gives me the sads. Coffee is supposed to get me.
Spa water at check-in would be a super cute & easy touch. Hotel Indigo does this. An expresso machine could be cute, too - at least in the suites.
Gym is nice! Exactly what I needed. The heat on the entire floor was broken, though - and people getting out of the pool commented on that. But I was working out so I was fine, obvs.
Thank you for having me, DoubleTree! I'll come again, legit. I have adjusted my Hilton expectations accordingly. Nice rooms, but definitely a three star situation thus far. Takeaway: I'd totally stay here for the room service.
