| - I was on vacation and needed to go to the ER last Labor day (2012). While I ultimately appreciated the thorough and thoughtful care by the staff during my visit, the subsequent paperwork nightmare is still going on. Apparently, some clerk clicked the wrong box and said I was a resident, when I clearly was not, and bills sent to whatever Arizona insurance company they had listed were rejected, as my insurance coverage isn't based in Arizona (this is what one of the billing offices told me). DUH. They had my home address out of state, I have no idea why they thought I lived in Arizona. I started receiving bills to pay large sums, and called around to give my insurance information out AGAIN (they took a copy of my card at the time of service, what is wrong with these people?!). Apparently one of the billing offices didn't submit a claim in time, and it was rejected by my insurance company. I have appealed and appealed, but in waiting for my insurance company to decide if they are going to do the right thing (probably not), I am still getting bills and have now been informed that the Emergency Physicians Professional Association will be sending me to collection. I am shocked that someone else's bonehead error is, 8 months later, going to cost me either my credit rating or several hundred dollars.
I realize people make mistakes, but this person's mistake is costing me a lot of money, and I have no recourse to fix this. And this person works at this hospital and is checking in people everyday. Good luck with that, folks.
