Should have checked yelp before coming in. I generally have a cheerful demeanor and seldom get rude customer service, so when I do it comes as a surprise. Brought my Frontier in because my tire sensor indicator was going off and two of my sensors were under warranty due to recent repairs at a different Nissan dealership.
They ran the diagnosis and they discovered it was for a sensor in a tire not under warranty. The diagnosis? $129. I asked what the diagnosis entailed. Ben, my service guy, immediately became defensive.
Me: "Do you know what the diagnosis entailed?"
Ben: "It's when you look at a car and inspect it for problems."
Me: "Right, I'm not looking for a definition, but what did this shop do specifically?"
Ben: "They inspected your car for problems."
Me: "I'm aware of that. When I asked 'what does it entail' I'm asking what specifically they did to inspect the car for problems."
Ben (walking away): "They perform many different things involving the diagnosis of the vehicle."
Me: "I'm aware they performed a diagnosis. That's what I asked. So did they just hook up the computer?"
Ben: "Different diagnoses require different inspections. With an engine problem they might need to open up the engine. With an oil change they might need to check under the vehicle."
Me: "Right, but I'm not here for engine problems. I'm not asking in general how diagnoses in general are performed, I'm asking specifically what a tire sensor inspection is performed. Does it just involve plugging the car up to a computer?"
Ben - angry: "A tire sensor inspection might just be hooking the car up to a computer."
Me: "That's all I wanted to know."
So that's that. ABC Nissan is the place to go if you want to be overcharged for a problem that is under warranty and then to be treated like an inconvenience once your money has been extracted.
I don't care about my warranty. I'm never going back for service or vehicle purchase.
