I've been curious about crepe cakes for what feels like years now. They pop up sometimes on cooking shows and they always look fantastic.
So when I was told that Millie Patisserie & Creamery sells a variety of crepe cakes, I knew it was just a matter of time before I stopped by.
We arrived around 1:00 on a Saturday and the place wasn't exactly busy. A quick perusal of their different cake options led us to the simple yet promising-sounding Vanilla Bean Crepe Cake.
Once we got past the shock of the price ($9 for a slice!), we sat down and admired the intricacy of the concoction. As promised, it's indeed many layers of crepes smushed between a cream-based frosting. The time it must take to make one of these cakes... Well, the price began to make more sense the more we looked at it.
And that price became irrelevant once I took my first bite. This is a seriously rich and exquisite dessert. The intense creaminess of the filling enhances the vanilla bean flavor, while the perfectly prepared crepes, of which there are many, effectively balances out the whole thing.
Seriously, this is something that needs to be sampled to be believed.
