  • I had a horrible experience at this location that I can not stop thinking about. It has left a bad impression and I feel obligated to share it, which I never do. I was being helped by Gene, a pushy, condescending worker. I am young and ignorant and I feel that he tried to use that to his advantage. I visited this store a total of 3 times in the past week. The first time Gene set us up with a fridge that did not fit our expressed restrictions. He also conned us into putting $100 down, even though we were not ready to buy, filling us with empty promises. The second time we went back (intentionally on a day that Gene wasn't there) we dealt with Vince. Vince was considerably more helpful and very accommodating, so kudos to him. Despite his knowledge and kindness, we were still not ready to drop $4,000 on something we hadn't looked up. He was understanding and welcoming to our return after we had done our research. The third time we went back pretty well ready to buy. Gene was there again and was exactly the same as the first time if not worse, however I was more stern which he clearly didn't like. He was secretive about a fridge that I inquired about and expressed my interest in, while he pushed another one. He informed me that he could get me a better deal on the one I didn't want and I confronted him on my sense that he wasn't being fully honest or more specifically leaving something out. I'm not sure what incentives he has, but he should not turn dissuade the sale of any item. He became very short and blatantly rude to us when we stated that we wanted to think about (after discussing on the side that we mostly just didnt want to buy from him). He had many snide remarks. When we asked for a refund of our initial money down, he attempted to doubt that we ever paid. Luckily, we had all the paperwork from his statement the previous time. He got very defensive and would NOT stop pushing us. He asked many different ways and times why we wouldn't leave our money, as to lock in a deal - which he would not guarantee to us in the future. He repeatedly showed us the prices advertised for the same product elsewhere, which is ironic to me because you don't list prices anywhere. My fiance told him losing the price he finagled was a risk we were willing to take. Gene begrudgingly gave us our refund and went on about how this is how he put dinner on the table and sent his kids to college, and that they're in the business to make money and basically that we had unreasonable wants. The funny thing is that we were ok with the price, it had nothing to do with that. We had written down the model numbers on the folder that the statement was in (albeit provided by spencers), and when we asked for it to do our research, as we continued to stress that all we wanted to do was make an educated decision, lovely Gene told us it wasn't ours anymore. I said that it was our writing and figuring on it and that he could keep the folder if I could copy my information down somewhere else. He proceeded to rip the folder up in front of me and throw the pieces into the trash. He shouted good luck somewhere else. I sure hope that his coworkers were ashamed and embarrassed by his behavior, because I certainly was. I'm thinking he affected more than just us, as other customers were audience to this scene he made. He told us that we came in there and didn't buy anything, wasting his time. I didn't realize you couldn't look without buying. Most companies invite friendly competition and match prices. If he was so sure he "would get us the lowest price" then he should have no problem with letting us finding that out for ourselves and returning, a fourth time. We even told him we keep coming back because we intend on getting something from them, not to humor him. My fiancĂ© asked for a supervisor and GENE informed us that there was not one. Another employee kindly gave us the number to their manager, though. The sad thing for him is that we WOULD HAVE bought from them, if it weren't for him. How karma comes around. He unfortunately lost the sale that Vince could have gotten from us, because I refuse to support a company that allows their employees to act as such. I was referred to this "great, local company" by a city of mesa police investigator. I will be setting her and every other person I come across straight about Spencers. Gone is the day when you are treated with respect, as a neighbor and local supporter. There is something to be said about corporations, they are mainstreamed and focused on customer service - unlike a private company that can get away with that. I am happy with my Home Depot purchase of the same EXACT items for the same EXACT prices, in addition to free delivery and a buy more save more bundle discount. Our sales associate was informed and so friendly and nice. I didn't feel like I was talking to a used car salesman, but someone who was helping me find what fit my unique situation.
