| - Excuse me for lecturing. I lived in Naples, and return every couple of years, so I know a thing or two about Vera Pizza Napoletana.
Il Pizzaiolo is the best pizza place in the city, since the deeply lamented demise of Roberto's. HOWEVER, the Margherita DOC is not right. There is no place for parmigiano in a Margherita. If you want to use parmigiano, fine, but call the pizza something else. In my opinion, it is not an improvement. (If anyone out there knows more than I do, please correct me.)
The Antipasto Napoli, a mixed plate of vegetables, is excellent and authentic. In particular the eggplant and the zucchini are outstanding. I also get cravings for the arugula and proscuitto pizza.
The wine list is good, appropriately all-Italian, and over-priced. The wine bar in back is very cute, rather dark, and just as noisy as the front room. Nothing but hard surfaces back there. It would be SO nice if there was something to absorb some sound.
Still, this is a favorite place and the only place to get - if choosing carefully - the real Neapolitan taste.
