Don't get me wrong. I love the Douglas Mental Health University Institute and most of the people there. But there are some THINGS THAT ARE NOT RIGHT OR FAIR: 1. Even the low-level staff have more access to my file than I do. 2. Organizations can get my file for free, but I can't. 3. Humiliating things in my file will be there for long after I'm dead, and it isn't as confidential as people think. I'm thinking of changing my name legally just so I can have a new file. 4. Staff sometimes misinterpret the reasons for my behaviors and write it as fact in my file. 5. Some people (thankfully not me) aren't even allowed to LOOK at their file to have corrections made. 6. Some things that have nothing to do with my mental health are recorded in my file (for example, repetitive movements that have nothing to do with meds or nerves) 7. I was too afraid and ashamed to admit a lot of this before. 8. I can and will contact Legal Aid, Action Autonomie and the Douglas users' committee if this keeps up. 9. For my own mental health I need to see the main and important parts of my file.
