  • After saving my pretty pennies for a while, and waiting for the right occasion (in this case, my home-girls from the MIA coming in for a weekend of reverie), I went to Bartolotta expecting the world and then some. SIGH. Where do I begin?? We ordered a bottle of Prosecco to ease into the night. As we were raising our hands in the air for our first toast, my friend found something brown floating in her glass. EEW... but, no worries -- we are in Bartolotta! The waiter will surely apologize and bring us another bottle... right?? Wrong. Instead, he found her another glass and poured some Prosecco into her glass and off he went... not to be seen much for the rest of night. Because their prize on the menu is the fresh imported whole fish, we opted to go with appetizers and save room for the bronzino, which was bought whole to the table in a fish cart. While I totally can appreciate this Euro-tradition, I also appreciate that others do not. And, let's be honest, I'm not into seeing fish eyes right before I partake. Anyways, on the menu, it read $15 per 100 grams... Harmless, right?? Sorry folks. Each portion (which require min of 2 people), works out to be about $75. At least the waiter offered to give us a 3 person size (as opposed to the 5 person size) fish. But at $200 for a 3 person portion... DAMN GINA!!! The apps we ordered were delish -- the octopus salad was scrumptious, as was the brussel custard that my girl ordered. Thus the reason for the 2 stars (and not 1) And finally, the bronzino.... our bad waiter made a brief reappearance and cut the fish so unevenly that some of us got HUGE portions while others got slivers of fish. The fish was great... but it was seeped in oil! Before I would put it in my mouth, I would blot the sides of the plate to get rid of excess! I still can't be sure if it was the fish that was oily or if it was the sides (pan sauteed zucchini; a tomato basil mix; and roasted potatoes) but an oil sauce in your plate is gross. All in all, my pretty pennies were wasted on Bartolotta. The ambiance is so-so; the service is terrible; and the food is mediocre (with the apps and wines being the stars). My recommendation: save your $$ and go to any of the other fantastic seafood restos in town.
