  • I have been woefully neglecting my fitness routine for far too long, sad to say. I have been a member for a few months now, but have only been in twice - explanation to follow - and I know I will be getting back there at some point. So this review can only be based on my experiences so far, to be amended at some later date, (fingers crossed). Because I have mobility issues, even though it's located right down the street from our apartment complex, it's still kind of a chore to get to, (less so nowadays, though - thank you, Uber and Lyft!) What initially clinched the deal for me as far as signing up goes is the accessibility of things as well as the variety. Not in the market for going back to weight training as of yet, it's nice to know that they DO have an elevator that goes up to the gym floor (right now, those stairs would be COMPLETELY out of the question.) There's a full-sized Pilates studio - also important to me in terms of rehab and muscle strengthening - and yoga classes, which I will be trying a little later on. The BIGGEST deal for me, though, is the pool. About three feet at the shallowest end, a little over six in the deeper end, which is PERFECT for what I do mostly, which is a lot of water exercises and aerobic activity. After all, finding a range of indoor pools in Vegas is no mean feat - we have outdoor pool weather for the better part of each year, so of course, almost all the pools here are outdoors. Only a place where I can use it year-round would work, and Super Sport's fits the bill. The dry and wet saunas and the jacuzzi are nice, but those are just 'gravy' for me. The pool is the most important thing. Which brings me to why I haven't been there more than twice in maybe a six-month period. My SECOND visit, I go in, and this is during the "rush hour" period, I expect to have to wait for a lane in the pool so I can get started. Wonder of wonders, the first lane is blocked off for the kids' classes, but only one of the other lanes is taken (there are four in all, so no, this is not as big as most municipal pools.) So I'm just glad I can get right into the water and get started. Until I begin to notice something, as the classes are changing from the pre-schoolers to the slightly older kids. The parents are bringing in kids for the classes, but some of their siblings are sitting out. Sneezing, coughing and blowing their noses. And I also see that there are grown-ups in the jacuzzi, doing the same. Now, I am no germophobe by any stretch of the imagination, but the LAST thing I wanted to have happen, was the setback of catching somebody else's cold and not being able to come in. Which, of course, is EXACTLY what happened. Nearly three weeks' worth of being flat on my back, afflicted with the kind of 'creeping crud' I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. (Well, maybe on TRUMP, but that's another story.) I've gotten over it since then, but it's putting it mildly to say that I'm just a little apprehensive about going back. The GOOD news is that unlike many 24 Hour Fitness facilities that I have used, this one actually IS open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So I'm thinking that by going in during the super-late/super-early periods, I might be able to avoid a lot of people, and therefore not have it happen again. Just out of curiosity: I wonder if signs can be added to the ones already put up in the pool area. They ask you not to swim if you have certain gastrointestinal 'issues'. Maybe they should do the same for people who are obviously not well enough to be swimming in the pool as well. Other than that, from what I have seen and been able to take advantage of, this is a great facility.
