This was my second time at Aveda Hair Institute. First time I booked a haircut with an institute level hairdresser and this time on academy level. What i find mot disappointing is that they seem to rush through all their appointments, just trying to get you out of the chair. Another thing is that even after going there twice, to two different people, never have they styled my hair afterwards! Now I have lived all over the world and visited various hairdressers both in Toronto and outside of Canada and styling is always ALWAYS included and is not something extra that you have to ask for. Since I was rushed out of my chair I didn't get the chance to ask my hairdresser. I thought she wanted to take me to another part of the salon for styling and was surprised when she suddenly left saying I could pay "here". Instead I asked the cashier whether styling was included in the price. She was very rude, raised her voice saying that it's my fault for not asking for it. When I told her that i never had to ask for it because it is always provided, she gave me a mean look and said: "What do you expect, we're only students". Sure I understand they are only students but they should be trained the proper way. Or will I specifically have to ask for styling at every salon?
Now don't get me wrong, the haircut itself was nice. It's just that I couldn't quite see the potential there in the salon since the hair was not styled and I left with my hair absolutely flat feeling I wanted a hoodie to hide my head in. Once I came home and could style the hair I was happy with the look of my new haircut.
So to summarize, be prepared to ask for every little thing, including the obvious like styling. And don't expect them to be nice. It is a risk you're taking going to a student but the higher two levels should have enough experience to manage a haircut.
