| - I've heard many a thing about the Bunkhouse Saloon. I've heard it is a dive, dingy, a landmark, has amazing concerts, is in a terrible part of town, etc. etc. etc. None of the bad things I heard mattered when I heard that one of my favorite bands to see live, The Joy Formidable were playing a show here. I bought tickets immediately and went.
I will admit that it is in a shady part of town. Not terrible but a bit dodgy. It is a few streets down from the Fremont Street Experience. Now, hipper individuals than I would say this is the area to be but not I. That being said, my friend and I rolled up and stepped inside. We were greet by a small but comfy space with a stage in the corner and a nice sized bar with friendly bartenders. We got ourselves a seat, some drinks, and waited way too long for the show to start.
When the show finally did start it was magical. There are only a few venues in town where you can get this intimate with the musicians. I would see all of my favorite bands here if they played here. It was magical. Another thing that is cool is that between bands, you can go out to their spacious backyard and chill. It is easily two to three times the size of inside and really adds to the ambiance of the venue as a whole.
I don't know if I enjoyed myself so immensely because of my company, the band, or the venue (I'm sure it was a mixture of all three) but I'll tell you what, I had a fantastic time here.
