  • We are so fortunate in the Valley of the Sun to have this amazing resource in our midst. It's a beautiful venue, always comfortable, with a staff that is very personable and approachable. It's a place for local artists to teach and to learn, to form community, to showcase their work. Additionally, renowned artists come from all over to teach workshops and classes, encouraging beginners and mentoring fellow professionals. One caveat: the Open Studios are usually very crowded. So arrive early in order to have a good spot. (Easels are provided.) I was afraid of SAS for years not realizing that I did not have to already be an artist in order to learn. Don't make the same mistake I did. Take a dive, look at their workshop and class descriptions and sign up-just do it! PS. My niece from Colorado attended one of the Youth Academy classes this summer and really enjoyed it too.
