| - I am about 10.5 months post-surgery and overall i am satisfied, but there are some things both good and bad you may want to know before booking your appointment. I always like to start off with the good so here we go!
1) The office is beautiful and super clean. When walking in you feel like it's a high class surgery center for celebrities and the very wealthy.
2) Not sure if she is still there, but Carlie the receptionist was extremely helpful and made me feel comfortable from pre surgery to laser treatments.
3) The nursing staff was very helpful and made the surgery as pleasant as humanly possible.
4) The sales processes were fairly simple, no pressure and the value was a good one.
5) My scar is so small that it's almost non visible, i have seen other hair transplant surgeons butcher up their patients, but Dr. Shelly Friedman did an outstanding job in keeping my line nice and neat. I can ask my hair stylist for a #4 and nothing is visible.
6) The free laser treatments were amazing and comfortable.
With the good stuff out of the way here are some of the issues that bothered me about Scottsdale Institute For Cosmetic Dermatology. Please note no surgery center is perfect, but these were observations that had a negative impact on my experience.
1) I never met with the doctor before surgery. No one ever did a scalp analysis beyond a sales person letting me know that I am an ideal candidate. Make sure to have the free hair analysis done before you book your surgery.
2) Dr. Shelly Friedman is not the nicest guy you will ever meet, but he does know what he is doing. Personally, I rather have an experienced surgeon over a nice one, but if you want your doctor to sympathize with you or show any kind emotions this may not be the right place for you. My sense was he wanted to get in and out of surgery in the fastest amount of time possible. Now 10 months later he has yet to schedule me for a follow up appointment.
3) When my surgery was scheduled there were at least 2 nurses who quit. From what i understood it was about pay, but they had a brand new nurse who was 3 days on the job and had no hair transplant experience to mange my post care which didn't evoke a huge amount of confidence.
4) They spring you with this 250.00 fee for a recovery bag that has some basic drug store wound cleaning supplies and a one month supply of Costco brand Rogaine. It's entirely possible that i missed the extra fee when i signed up for surgery, but i felt that i could buy my own bag with the same supplies for under $75.00.
5) Watch out for the upsell. When you get in to surgery the doctor will ask you about adding additional graphs with a bit of pressure. It's not a bad thing per say, but you may find yourself swiping the AMEX again.
