| - Today I had a harrowing experience. I don't think I would wish this type of horror on anyone. Well, I can think of maybe one or two people.... But I digress. Around 12pm this afternoon I received an email from my bank, Wells Fargo, that the password to my online banking had been changed. I was just leaving Sam's Club on Pecos and Tropicana with my dad and as we got in the car I told my dad to hang on and let me look at this. Well, I knew I didn't change the password so I immediately called the number provided. There was a 15 minute wait time. So, I preceded to drive to our next destination when I heard two to three pings alerting me to new e-mails. I stopped the car. I looked at the e-mails while I was on hold. Over 10 from Wells Fargo informing me that I had added a couple of Zelle recipients and that large sums of money were being transferred to these recipients from my account. All this while I am on hold with the bank. Panic had set in and I was beside myself because I couldn't stop the transfer of funds and I had no one to help me. I was crying by now explaining to my 89-year-old father sitting next to me that someone was stealing my money while I was watching them do it. He was very calm and said the money will be returned and to take a deep breath and watch where I was going. In the meantime, Britney, from Wells Fargo came on the line and I said, 'someone is transferring the contents of my bank account as we speak. My name is Jodie Rocco and my social is blah blah. I am in my car and can't give you any other info until I get to the first Wells Fargo I can find.' She told me to stay on the line and start providing information. The closest WF I could find was Flamingo/Sandhill. I was still on the phone with Britney who told me not to hang up when I walked in. I went to the first banker, Fabiola Ramirez, and said please help me. Someone is transferring the contents of my bank account to unauthorized recipients as we speak. She motioned for me to sit down. I gave her my drivers license and bank card and my phone. She calmly started her conversation with Britney. I didn't realize it at the time but 10 more e-mails had come in notifying me that my contact number had been changed, my e-mail had been changed, more Zelle recipients had been added and there were text messages to verify funds that were being sent to my new mobile number. What I didn't know is 20 minutes after the first 'new' Zelle recipients were created, the transactions were automatically cancelled by Wells Fargo because they appeared to be suspicious. I had caught this breach in progress and it was scary. An hour and a half later everything was rectified. New account, new login, new password, new security on my account. And most importantly, all my money was immediately returned to my account. I cannot explain the devastation I felt as that was happening in real time while I was trying to stop it. Without the professionalism, quick action and human compassion of both Britney at the fraud department, and Fabiola at the Flamingo/Sandhill branch, they would have had to carry me out of the bank. And my father, who sat there for an hour and a half and said nothing except, there's food in the trunk, are you almost done. #Life with me.... ; )
