  • PLEASE NOTE: this review does not reflect the surgery results. My surgeon, Dr. Joseph, did a fantastic job. This review is exclusively for the vision institute location in Charlotte. Do not expect this to be easy. You get what you pay for. This is a Groupon deal. The cost was fantastic, it allowed me to get something very expensive done for a lot less than I had expected. The surgery itself was fantastic. Do not expect any bells and whistle's, really do not expect even a basic level of customer service. It took probably 10 separate phone calls just to schedule my appointment. Nobody had any sense of urgency. Don't ever expect anybody to give you a call back. You will be given a lot of conflicting information, so make sure to research online beforehand. The staff is not very knowledgeable, and will give you wrong information. Nobody seemed to think that having a major surgery on your eyes is a big deal. Me repeatedly calling asking for information on what I need to do to prepare, largely went ignored. I was told I would receive a call to brief me on the operation today, one week prior. The call was all of 30 seconds long, and told me to have somebody else drive me. That's it. No make sure you bring sunglasses, no make sure you bring pain pills... Nothing. On surgery day, any questions I had outside will immediately blocked and I was told to ask the surgeon. In the operating table, while the surgeon was nice, he obviously had a good zillion other people to see that day, and was rushing me along. That said I did not feel prepared at all. I had PRK surgery done, and needed a third type of eyedrops, which I was not informed about prior. Not that that is an issue, however 10 minutes after surgery, the last thing I wanted to do was to go to a pharmacy to pick up a prescription, that most pharmacies don't have handily available. It would've also been great for somebody to walk me through what to do about pain. Nobody gave me a prescription for painkillers, until I came back to the vision Institute on day two in the biggest pain of my life. At that point they finally prescribed me Vicodin and explain how to relieve the pain with Ibuprofen and Tylenol. At that point they also finally gave me cold compresses. Honestly, I'm super happy with the results. If I had a choice, I would not have done it through the vision Institute. It is the Walmart of LASIK. The surgeon is fantastic, but you're not treated with respect. Nobody helps you and you are left to fend for yourself. If you do your research online, go for it, it is a fantastic deal. But be aware, their service genuinely sucks.
