  • I have mixed feelings about this particular Marriott property mainly because the pro's were really exceptional, but on some points, the property failed miserably. Starting with the positives, the location (dead city center) is probably one of the best I've ever encountered. You are literally one block away from over 40 different restaurants (solid 4 star restaurants) and within walking distance of many types of entertainment. The city is clean, relatively quiet, very pedestrian friendly and safe. The new design of the common areas inside the hotel were well done - comfortable places to sit, connect with friends or use your electronic devices (lots of plugs all around). The casual restaurant, Coco & the Director, was a nice addition for grabbing a coffee or breakfast sandwich before attending the conference in the hotel. As for the hotel room itself, I was fortunate enough to get into one of the newly renovated rooms and overall it is a good change. I do like the hardwood-looking vinyl floor (I was shocked that I couldn't hear my neighbor above me so bonus points for insulation) and especially was fond of the air purifier machine. For the first time in my life, I haven't had allergy issues in a hotel room! Two thumbs up for having a large self-lit mirror in the bathroom and TWO full length mirrors in the hotel room. Now for the negatives. I am all for saving water by reusing towels, but when the only place you provide to hag your used towel is a bar only 14" long - it doesn't really work, especially with two people using the room. Not a fan of the frosted glass bathroom door - if someone gets up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and they turn on the light, you've just woken up the other person. The memory foam bed was pretty hard and hot to sleep on and the aromatherapy was way to strong. One of the worst parts about staying at the hotel was that two out of the five nights I was there, my room was not made up until 5 or 6pm - only after I called the front desk (one night I called twice and had to wait 4 hours). I was not a fan of their signature restaurant Stork. In my mind the food was overpriced, tasteless other than an amazing amount of salt and otherwise not inventive. At the end of the meal, I was out $50 for 1 person and really just wanted a good hamburger. I went back for breakfast with a friend during my last day at the hotel and had the same overall impression. My friend ended up returning the homemade sausage because it was so salty. The other major negative was the front desk setup. At first glance, it looks like a self-serve kiosk like at the airports - which would be really neat so you don't need to stand in line and wait forever to get your room key. But alas, this was just someone's attempt at a decorating decision gone bad. They now have the receptionist workers working at multiple desk/tables and now there is NO line so it's a free for all. I literally stood there for 5 minutes waiting for one of the three people at the desk to help me then another group of people walk in and they start helping them. I'm not a small person so it's not as if they couldn't see me over the tables/counters. Overall I would give the hotel a solid 3.5 stars. Would I stay at the hotel again - yes, but skip Stork and make sure the front desk doesn't give you a song and dance about making up your room in a timely fashion.
