  • I was planning a birthday party for my mother, and having recently moved back to Calgary after living in Texas for 15 years, I was unfamiliar with the local bakeries. A quick google search and a check on Yelp led me to Orchid Pastry, a locally owned shop in a strip mall on Centre street not too far from my house. Their website gave me a good idea of the types of pastries they offer, and I was sold when I saw that they make a tiramisu cake with real fresh cream. I ordered a 1/2 sheet for $70 which could probably feed about 35 people and was very impressed when I went to go pick it up. The cake was gorgeous, and the flavour was everything I had been dreaming about since I ordered the cake a few days earlier. Light, fluffy layers of cake sandwiched between light, creamy layers of espresso flavored tiramisu goodness. Everyone at the party loved it (most importantly, my mother), and wanted to know where it came from. I was happy to refer them to Orchid. I will order from them again and can't wait to go back to try some of the other pastries they serve in the shop!
