This used to be the premiere place to go to for events but after tonight I don't think I'm ever going to go back there. Many times I feel like the security and check-in teams have been unscrupulously rude for no apparent reason. I understand that everyone that works there is doing "their job" but come the eff on... There is never any semblance to their process to get anyone through their doors. Nor is there ever any hint of humanity from the employees who are there to provide a "service" to the venue's customers. Regardless if you have tickets or not for the said event of the evening. Every single time that I have gone there I've had always been forced into a single queue that goes all the way back to around the block past the David's tea located in the same area. OK, I also understand it may be a popular event that these busy line ups occur but the security team is doing absolutely nothing from stopping random people from cutting the line. These people skip the line that you've been waiting well over an hour in sometimes even longer and guess what, you've now got to wait even longer since the bouncers aren't stopping anyone from doing this. Palace, do yourselves a favor and take a note from people who host events at their venues on the regular. It's really not a difficult thing to wrap one's head around. This review isn't coming from an upset patron but one who had had personal and previous experience in event management. One who has been to much larger venues that host well over tens of thousands of visitors. You guys need to get your entrance policies and regulations in order as well as your promoters to work with you if you want to host a successful event. If you're hosting a free event, put a God damn cap on the amont of free tickets that are available and you won't have so many disappointed guests. There are a lot of simple procedures that can be put in place for free events to make them go just as smooth as paid events. I, and others I'm sure are more than happy to provide advice to this venue to better host and effectively make all patrons that visit the Palace a free experience. The Palace has been one of the longest standing and iconic venues in Calgary and I think everyone deserves to have an awesome and amazing night there at least once in their lives.
