| - The hype - it's so real. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had, both for taste and for the memories. It's a beloved spot, and there's a reason for it. If you're a first-timer in Montreal, this should definitely be on your dinner list.
First, make reservations (we emailed). I can't stress that enough. We made reservations 3 months in advance of our weekend trip to Montreal, and I'm glad we did - we watched throngs of people trying to get in on a Friday night without a reservation and they were turned away.
Second, the environment. Bustling, boisterous, lively. Upscale feel but still comfortable and homey. Service was so sweet, not pushy at all, and made the effort to rattle off all 9 specials (by memory) including the price, so we wouldn't have to ask.
Third, the food. Rich, comforting, and so delicious. Note that this is a very, very heavy meal, with large, generous portions, so come hungry. We ordered: a) Cromesquis de foie gras (appetizer, $4.00), b) Charcuterie Plate (appetizer, $16.00), c) Beef Rib ($30.00), d) Pork Chop with lentils ($20.00), and e) drinks. Everything was delicious, but the standouts for us were both appetizers and the Beef Rib, which also came with mashed potatoes. So rich, delicious, fell off the bone with the softest way possible. Everything was incredibly tasty, carefully cooked. The charcuterie plate was the best I've ever had, and cured to perfection.
What else is there to say that hasn't been said already? I would definitely come back here again, and wholeheartedly recommend it, especially if you're a tourist in Montreal. The place is full of both tourists and locals, and is an atmosphere and meal you'll definitely remember.
With tax and tip, the bill came to around $105.
