I've golfed almost every course in Arizona (and about 50 or so out of state) and this was the worst customer service I've experienced--and it's not even close.
1. Pro shop staff person didn't even look up at me until I was signing the receipt. Not even when speaking to me directly. Not that big of a deal, but a harbinger.
2. Cart staff was friendly on initial encounter, but then had a major attitude out of nowhere with my playing partner when he asked about using a credit card. He didn't end up purchasing anything and she rudely says "Then why did you ask!?"
3. We were second tee time out of starting at 10 and playing behind a threesome. They were slow, turning at over two hours. They weren't playing bad at all, just taking a very long time at the tee boxes and between shots. We told the rangers and one of the guys explained their policy (we were fine with the explanation). Here is where it gets weird....
4. Get to our 12th hole and a different ranger comes up. States that he asked the threesome in front of us to never return to their course (a big jump from asking to speed up a bit). He then states they made the turn in 2:10 and that was okay. My playing partner says that this would be okay if it wasn't a threesome and the first tee out, but that they should be playing a little faster. Ranger actually tells my partner to he's "b1tching" and that he must "be a golf expert." My playing partner gets p1ssed and they go back and forth a bit. Ranger then exchanges cuss words with my guy and says that he is now going to sit there and watch us tee off. Ranger that makes another comment and actually flips our group off as we leave. Pretty unreal.
I have a feeling that we might have been treated a little differently because we weren't members of this club. Strange, because this place isn't that great. I've played some pretty high-end clubs and never felt out of place. I never understand why private clubs open to the public to raise money and then treat them this way. I could easily be a potential member previewing the course...just bad marketing.
