| - DON'T EVER GO TO: Palm Mortuary on 1325 N Main St.
I am disappointed and dissatisfied of their employees' failure to fully inform me of all the cremation options, handling of my husband's body and lack of professionalism during the services. As you can imagine this is a very hard time for me, my children and my family and what I was looking for in your response was simply an apology or acknowledgement that things weren't handled as professionally as they should have... not multiple excuses.
(Gina Narro's comment - While we do have a few cremation packages, only one package includes a viewing and funeral service where your loved one would be present. All other cremation packages would require the cremation being done before any other services, with the exception of a 30 minute private Identification Viewing.)
My response: I would have simply appreciated someone taking the time with me to clearly explain this as you have. I would have liked to have known about all cremation options before deciding what was best for my family.
(Gina Narro's comment - I also reviewed the instructions given to our funeral director regarding preparation and Mr. Calugay was not shaved for the private Identification Viewing, as per your request. He was shaved and had minor cosmetics applied for the public viewing/services.)
My response: I was never specifically asked if my requests for minimal makeup and not shaving was for the PRIVATE viewing only nor did explicitly instruct anyone to have him shaved and heavy make-up applied for the public viewing. Did the funeral directors notes explicitly say I gave approval to shave him and apply heavy makeup for the public viewing? Having Angelo look as everyone remembered him was why I made these very specific requests. I wish you could have been present to see how upset my oldest daughter was when seeing her father and expressing to me "he doesn't look like my dad". My feedback to you, is that in the future your funeral directors should check with the families (who make very specific requests regarding appearances) before making decisions.
(Gina Narro's comment - Also, our Care Center staff completes an Initial Analysis of the condition we receive loved ones from any facility, such as a hospital. Any sores or discoloration would be noted. Was there any time in which the hospital may have placed some sort of respiratory mask on your husband, perhaps causing the two small discoloration marks on each side of his nose?)
My response: Were any sores or discoloration noted in your Care Center staff Initial Analysis? Because when my husband's body was turned over to your staff these marks were not apparent (I have several pictures where these marks are not apparent). I would expect your Care Center staff to have documented these marks in their intake notes should they have been caused by the hospital and if they were in their notes, you would have stated this in your response.
Gina Narro defended her staff the whole time without any sympathy or empathy.
My response: I fully understand that Trint has a responsibility to keep the service on schedule, however, my issues with Trint was with "how" he approached this task, the way he conducted himself and the comments he made during the services. A professional Funeral Service Director should never do the following (as Trint did).
* Ask for a round of applause after a Eulogy is performed
* Making the following announcement to our guests to conclude the service - "Okay, it's time to wrap up" - NEED TO PUT IN REAL COMMENT
* During the private viewing I specifically requested (and he agreed) to wear red in honor of my husband, when he didn't he told me "he could not do so because his father played for the Steelers."
