| - I don't know what to say about reviewing a Gourmet Fine Foods place, because there's a lot you have to consider. First of all, my perspective is someone who usually shops at No Frills/Asian supermarkets etc. Now, let's begin.
Obviously, it's different. It's in a category of its' own a.k.a UPscale. For me, when I have previous knowledge of something, it alters my perspective. This is also known as e x p e c t a t i o n s. I mean, if you know this place is going to be gourmet, you're going to have a certain standards. Like so:
1. I expect a more sophisticated group of shoppers (the rich)
2. I expect a reguar bag of chips to be almost 2x more expensive.
3. I expect the quality produce to be fresh and not even have to THINK about considering if it's ripe or not.
4. I expect to find everything up-to-date and not have to worry about expired foods on the shelf.
5. I expect friendly, genuine, and knowledgeable staff at hand.
6. I expect the quality of the food to modernize their store.
Don't you?
So, these are MY expectations, but the big question is... did they meet them?
Not quite.
Here's why:
The atmosphere is certainly nice. I always like a change from the regular No Frills stop to a nice treat like, Pusateri. But, I'll be honest, their staff are pretty much the same you'd find at No Frills.
I ordered a Soy Chai Latte and a carrot cake. The barista forgot my order, so I had to wait a bit longer. He was apologetic about the delay, and I was too. In the time I waited, I should have cancelled my order as it was a cup of dissapointing, watered down, underspiced 'latte'. Even my sister, who has never tried a soy chai latte said 'it tastes like nothing.'
On the other hand, my carrot cake was not bad. The icing was average. As for the cake itself, quite moist, and for $2.50, I'd say the portion was pretty decent. I'm still on the hunt for the best carrot cake in Toronto (suggestions would be great)
I also tried a cheese cake and many other desserts from Pusateri's, but I can't judge those because Pusateri is only the womb which the baby is born in. If I were to actually criticize, I'd have to see the baby itself. So Rahier's Patisserie's, watch out. 'cause you'll be reviewed next seeing as though you provide Pusateri with your cakes!
*On a lighter note, their produce is certainly top-notch. I've never tried their hot foods, but it does look quite delicious. But like I said before, the experience itself shopping in such a place like this should be one left with full satisfation and I was not fully satisfied. (I guess this note didn't turn out so light...)
