We wanted something different but still Asian or Asian-ish and Indonesian fit the bill. So we came across this cozy restaurant with bar attached in a quasi-industrial strip mall next to a bike shop off the corner of downtown.
They make their tempeh in house and in my opinion it was the highlight of the dinner. We tried tempeh in the Sayur Lodeh (veggie coconut soup) as well as a complimentary side of Tempeh Chips. The soup was a bit bland but the Tempeh Chips were better. Texture was good. Tasted more fresh than tofu. The other appetizer we got was the Otak Otak, fish cake in banana leaves. I've had a couple fish-type-things in banana leaves, but never fish cake. It was really good and came with a spicy sauce.
For the main dishes, we got the Bebek Bekar (roast duck) and daily special which was yellow curry over mung bean noodles with Tempeh. The curry was good from start to finish. The duck came with a sliced breast and a couple pieces of leg. The spices were phenomenal and the texture was spot on. But the sauce it came with was just a little too sweet. It reminded me of Chinese Peking duck (it may be based on that) but a bit sweeter.
Prices are fair and you get 10% off with Yelp check-in. Service was very friendly.
