| - This was a really odd hotel experience for me because it had the grandeur of a vegas casino, but the dullness of senior citizen home. My stay was after New Years, Sunday-Tuesday.
They nickel and dime you. They charge for the gym $22, for the internet $13+, per day, but while I was there the convention goers got free access. Wohoo. I had the Keurig Coffee maker and there were two k cups near the coffee maker but I didn't want to touch them based on people's review of being charged for them so I just used my own. What ever happened to free coffee in pouches???
There is an empty fridge for you to store your food and booze.
2. On the other hand there isn't a resort fee.
3. The free show Masquerade didn't play when I was staying which I thought was crazy because there was a CONVENTION going on in the hotel. I thought it was a shame and made the whole place seem less lively....
4.The pool was closed. Why? Do people forget to swim when it is winter? Who cares, heat up that sucker and leave the jacuzzi on. Again, I felt the Rio was very dull because there was zero excitement going on.
5 The free shuttle that sorta runs every half hour, but only runs to Ballys and Harrahs and ONLY runs from 10am to 1am. Why not 24 hours? It is Vegas after all.
6. Cost from the airport to the hotel in a taxi was 15 ish so I used the shuttle for like $7. However, they told me that in order to use the shuttle to go to the airport, I had too leave 3 hours earlier. WHATEVER.
I had a super clean room with a great view. The room looked like it was stuck in the 70s, but still trendy in the minimalist sense. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. I liked the smell of their soap, lotion, and shampoo, but they only had a shampoo/conditioner combo. You've been warned.
Their tables were sorta expensive. I just wanted to play super small hands. Lowest cost tables were $5 with $10 buy in, I think. BOO.
If you sign up for the Rewards Card and you have a hotel room, they give you $5 on the spot to blow on the slot machines. Wohoo, won $30.
They also teach you the basics of poker, no strategy or hierarchy, just a feel for the game. I guess few people sign up because they taught me on the spot which I think is great customer service from the Poker Room.
The check in line is horrific. It took 40 minutes to get through even though I checked in at 5pm to avoid the 4pm check in people. AH!
Unlike a lot of other reviewers I happened to go when there were no promotions going on so I paid full price for my stay and I didn't get a chance to purchase any of the Rio's packages. I did bring this up to management, but they didn't budge. I think that was also poor customer service because I ended up buying tickets to another show at another hotel AND I ended up liking the other hotel more, so I plan to stay there next time I come to vegas. Stay tuned for that review.
