| - I went to 3 different surgeons prior to meeting Dr. McConnell. My initial meeting at the Glendale office was great! She thoroughly explained my condition (including on-paper drawings which took about 15 minutes) and what she planned to do to treat the issues. She was professional, courteous, kind, and knowledgeable. Her experience and credentials (to include training at Mayo) are hard to beat! I was both convinced I needed and ready for the surgery based on my meeting with her.
She preformed surgery on my at her Outpatient Surgery Center, and everything there was absolutely A-OK (and saved my a considerable amount of money relative to doing the surgery in a hospital...who wants to go to hospitals...that's where sick people are located). My follow-up a week after surgery was very short, but long enough to know that everything was healing as expected.
My brother had similar surgery somewhere in the midwest and struggled for weeks in recovery. I was able to play hockey on the Sunday after having surgery on the Monday prior (maybe that wasn't advised, but my body told me I could, so I did).
I'm now 10 days after surgery, and feel like I am at almost 100% normal function. I still have some healing that will apparently take several weeks, so am treating the healing tissues as prescribed, but I am able to do everything I'd normally plan to do. I just can't say enough good things about my experience!!
One word of advice, plan some extra time at your initial appointment and follow-up (and do be angry about waiting a bit). Dr. McConnell is providing the same detail and courtesy to all her patients. It would seem that she gets a little late relative to schedule appointment times. That minor issue was not nearly enough to reduce the overall star rating to less than 5 stars.
I'm sure there are other great colorectal surgeons out there, but Dr. McConnell was fabulous. Highly recommend!!
