I wish yelp had half stars as baby stacks is more of a 3.5 star kind of place. That's not really a knock on this business. The vibe is island style and the restaurant has a relaxing feel. The menu has a ton of pancake options but has other more traditional options like omelette says well as island flavor a like loco moco.
I had the loco moco which was very good. The patty was big and thick and juicy. It seemed to be made from scratch. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the gravy was rich and dark. I got a side of bacon pancakes. I was hoping for better cakes. Mine were flat and dense and slightly chewy. The flavor was there, but the texture was not.
My wife had the chicken fried steak and eggs with carrot cake pancakes. Her steak tasted a bit off although it was nicely fried. Maybe the oil was on its way out. She loved the sausage gravy but was nonplussed by the thick, undercooked hash browns. Her pancakes were thin and tender and had lots of spice. They tasted like carrot cake and were very good.
The service overall was good, yet our food took almost 30 minutes to arrive. The table next to us was having issues too. Maybe the kitchen was in the weeds as it was late morning on a Sunday. Our server did check on us several times and refilled our coffees constantly.
If you like a large selection of "dessert" pancakes then you'll probably like baby stacks. If you're more of a traditional pancakes person you may prefer a different place. If you want loco moco this is your pace!
