| - Personally, I felt that this was 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 since Yelp doesn't do half star ratings. Coming back after several years brought back childhood memories and nostalgia. I wanted to rate it higher but I can't because the traffic I had to endure was awful and some of the vendor staff were unpleasant to say the least.
This visit included myself, hubby, our kids, and my in-laws. We decided to do a Friday afternoon visit and I realize that it's the reason I had to endure the awful traffic. The experience at the fair made up for it. The in-laws seemed to have had a good time and I know my kids had a great experience.
I do agree that the fair can be an expensive outing but there are ways to cut down the costs. My hubby and I paid for the group's tickets, parking, and food so that was a nice little dent in our wallets but we wanted to so my in-laws, his parents, can have a good time.
This year there was a Fry's promo of spending at minimum $50 at their stores and you'll get 2 free adult admission to the fair printed on the receipt. Well, Fry's is where we exclusively do all of our grocery shopping so that was a no-brainer for us to do. You will need to keep the whole receipt to turn in at the admission gate. We had receipts for hubby and I and the in-laws to use so that helped a lot. I just had to buy a child's ticket for my oldest child and my youngest was able to get in free.
Discounts and promos change every year so check out the state fair website for the most current details. In the years past, there were free shuttles that ran from a few different off-site parking lots to the fairgrounds but I didn't find any info about it for this year. Definitely look into this to help cut down costs. If you're going with a group, consider splitting the costs for different stuff. When my hubby and I went as a couple before our kids were even thought of, we went with a group of friends and this helped a lot when it came to saving money.
I can't stress enough to plan, plan, plan! Go the the state fair website! It will make visiting a heck of a lot easier and reduce unnecessary spending. I would love to come back in the future years with my kids to give them the same fun memories that I had as a kid.
