| - I was staying nearby and needed a morning cup of joe. I decided to forgo the starbucks and timmy hos and try something local. Bad choice. The entire menu is in French, like most other places in Montreal. That's okay, I can read well enough to decide I want to try out a mocha, or café moka. The guy at the counter was actually really nice which was surprising because usually the second you open your mouth to speak English, it's like a cloud of dirt surrounds you like Pigpen on the Peanuts show and the French speaking people can't get away from you fast enough.
Anyway, I'm digressing here. So he's a nice dude, explains they don't carry non-fat milk, only 1%. Okay, fine, I'll deal. So I stand awkwardly by the church pews??? lol. Not exactly the best seating for a coffee shop but alright. Finally I take my drink and off I go, walking back to the loft where I'm staying. It has to cool down anyway.
I'm maybe a block away from where I'm staying and I take a little sip. It tastes...meh but it's cool enough I can drink more. I take a big gulp and nearly choke! My esophagus was literally on fire. They must put cayenne pepper in the mocha because it was insanely hot. I love hot and spicy food but I was freaked out. I took another sip and it burned as badly as the first. I just threw it out. It didn't taste good even, it just tasted like hot peppers and it made me concerned. Like why the hell is the coffee spicy? Is there something wrong with it?
