| - Dark horse was at one time my favorite coffee shops in Toronto.
The atmosphere was lively, they had plenty of power outlets, fast and free wifi, a good selection of fresh baked goodies and oh-so great coffee.
They had a good balance of friendly staff and angry baristas (aka focused perfectionists) who pulled great espressos and made a seriously mean macchiato(my go to espresso drink).
The fast moving-long lines were evidence for the exceptional service. Dark horse, I believe was also instrumental in shaping the now flourishing coffee culture in Toronto.
Unfortunately, a couple of years ago the tides seemed to turn.
It began with them blocking all their power outlets, I figured it was to reduce squatters and I welcomed getting a chance to get to sit. It affected the atmosphere a tad, it still seemed busy, but less lively.
Sadly, the last 5-6 times I have visited the Coffee is not as great anymore, still better than the chains, but not as great compared to the standards of consistency they set themselves.
Also, the baked goodies did not feel quite as good, might simply be a change of recipes or bakers.
The wifi and aesthetic qualities of the location are still great.
