| - Ate here with my wife for Valetine's day. Awesome ambience, chic decor, great wait staff. Food, however, was a mix of really good and just mediocre. We had the fixed course. Beef tataki was insane. The ginger sauce was incredibly flavorful and complemented the rare beef well without overpowering the taste of the beef. Salmon tartare was pretty good. Some bits of the salmon were somewhat older; had a bit of a fishy taste. Wasn't a big fan of that. If not for that, it would have been delicious. As far as the sashimi platter went, salmon and big-eye tuna were great. Some of the other fish weren't as fresh. Popcorn shrimp tempura was great. Filet mignon was well cooked, however, the accompanying sauce seemed like a cop-out to me. It was like a duck sauce you could get from your local chinese delivery restaurant with some added spices. Sea bass was a bit undercooked in the center. In my mind, a well cooked fish should flake, but still be moist. Ours was still raw in the center. Dessert was OK. Chocolate ganache with green tea macaroons. The macaroons were hard like a chip. Could've been a bit softer.
For the amount of money we spent ~200$ with tip for 2 drinks and dinner (granted the prices were jacked up a bit because it was valentine's day), I would've expected more attention to detail and higher quality ingredients.
I feel like on a less busy day, some of these flaws would not have been an issue (besides the freshness of the fish).
Definitely wouldn't rule out giving this place a 2nd chance based on its previous reviews. Maybe we were just there on an off day.
