  • The Cooking Class: Date Night - Steakhouse Favorites The Menu: Classic Spinach Salad served w/ Warm Bacon Vinaigrette Cast Iron Seared Steak with Caramelized Shallots Bourbon Caramel Ice Cream Sundae The Lesson: We learned how to sear, season, and cook a NY Strip Steak. The steaks were already seasoned 'Brazilian Style' with salt/pepper and left out so they were at room temperature before hitting the pan. We seared the steaks on a cast iron skillet and they were finished in the oven (the steaks were thick at1 1/2 inches ). We also learned how to make a warm bacon vinaigrette (for the spinach salad) over the stove and learned how to caramelize shallots with red wine to accompany our steak. For dessert, we were able to make our vanilla bean ice cream and watch a demo for the bourbon caramel sauce. We really enjoyed the class and atmosphere that Sur La Table provided. We are planning/looking forward to coming back and taking another class! Notes: They provided NY Strip Steaks. This was a welcomed upgrade from the anticipated Flat Iron Steaks that are normally used in this class. General Review: - Chef Luis and his team of other chefs and assistants were all wonderful! They were all welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about their craft. Together, they all had a wealth of knowledge and experience working at various restaurants on The Strip. I asked a lot of questions. They were all quick to answer my questions and help wherever they could. l learned a lot. - They welcome you to the class and offer refreshments. You will find your name, apron, and paperwork on your chair w/ the exact recipes you work on. This is nice if you'd like to follow along and take notes. - You share a station with others. You will be assigned to your team and station upon arrival. We shared our station with another couple (we had 4 people in our team). We all took turns doing our part in preparing our ice cream, steak, and salad dressing. - You do not get to do every step in the cooking process. They had a lot of the preparation and measuring completed ahead of time. Our butter, our wine, our bacon fat, our pre-seasoned steaks, and other items were waiting at our station to be used in our class. - After you're done preparing your meal with your team, the Chefs will take everything you make and split it up /plate the items for the class to enjoy. You *might* not actually eat the exact items you prepared at your station. This didn't bother us. However, I feel it is worth mentioning. - I do wish you would get a full meal (full steak for each person would be great). I ended up giving most of my steak to my husband so he could fill up. Every couple shared half of a NY Strip steak, roughly a cup of spinach salad, and small taste of ice cream. I was disappointed with the meal size for the value. The class description states "you will enjoy a generous taste of every dish" and they delivered on that. Just don't come here expecting generous portion sizes. - As other reviews have mentioned, students receive a coupon good for 10% off in-store purchases the day of class. - They offer private group events (minimum of 10 students). This would be a GREAT idea for a unique birthday party or other celebration! - The class was 2/2.5 hours long. They offer hair ties (to pull long hair back) and remind you to always wash your hands between touching your face/hair etc. (yes, even between touching your phone for photos). Wear comfortable clothing, take lots of photos, and have a lot of fun! Review 10 for 2017
