Welcome to Café Noir, the most average coffee shop in Montreal! Better than pseudo-coffee served at chains like Second Cup and McDonald's, but tailing behind all other properly established coffee shops in the city, Café Noir has one redeeming quality: it's open 24 hours. Hurray!
Café Noir serves espresso, coffee and warm food all day and all night long. The decor of the place is unremarkable; wooden chairs and plain black tables stacked together, and the local is painted a strange shade of bright green. That being said, all times I visited the coffee shop was generally clean and mostly well kept.
The service is generally polite, so it's definitely a plus. On the other hand, it's not unusual to periodically find at least one funky smelling client sitting towards the front of the restaurant. But I suppose that's one of the risks that comes with attending a coffee shop late at night!
Café Noir is an okay spot if you're craving coffee in the middle of a sleepless night, or if you seek a spot to enact a very casual late evening tête à tête. Otherwise, I can think of a least ten to twenty superior coffee shops that you should go to instead during the day time.
